Maximum Functionality In A Carefully Composed Outdoor Stable
For this project in the Dutch province of Friesland, we realised a spacious outdoor stable with a gable roof, where functionality, comfort and clarity take centre stage. With total dimensions of 12200 × 6000 mm, the stable accommodates four horses and includes a fully integrated storage area.
The result is an outdoor stable that is not only practical in daily use, but also radiates calmness and structure.
Clear Layout With A Wide Central Aisle
The stable is accessed through the first set of double hinged doors. Immediately, the wide central aisle stands out, providing space, visibility and pleasant working conditions.
The four horse boxes are positioned in an L-shaped configuration. This smart layout creates logical and efficient walking routes, allowing feeding, mucking out and daily care to run smoothly. At the same time, each box retains generous individual space.
The wide aisle offers comfortable freedom of movement and direct access to all horse boxes.
Horse-Friendly Box Design
The horse boxes are fitted with sliding doors and practical half doors. This allows the horses to put their heads outside, stay engaged with their surroundings and participate in the stable environment.
This design supports natural curiosity, enhances air circulation and encourages social interaction. The combination of a closed lower section and an upper section with steel bars ensures safety while maintaining an open character.
Natural Light, Ventilation And A Comfortable Stable Climate
A total of five stable windows are strategically integrated into the façades. These provide pleasant daylight entry and natural ventilation, while limiting direct wind and draught.
The gable roof is constructed using insulated sandwich panels. This roof system contributes to a stable indoor climate and reduces temperature fluctuations throughout the year, resulting in comfortable and durable housing for the horses.
Integrated Storage Area With Separate Access
At the rear of the outdoor stable, a second set of double hinged doors provides access to a fully enclosed storage room.
There is ample space for feed, rugs, tools and other materials. Even a compact tractor can be easily stored here. The storage area is directly connected to the stable while functioning as a clearly defined and organised compartment. This makes the outdoor stable suitable not only for horse housing, but also for efficient yard management.
